Benjamin Netanyahu pulled out what he just called a historic move.
Israel just went official, recognizing the Republic of Somaliland as a full-on independent state, with a deal inked for mutual shout-outs, swapping embassies, security, and more.
Ok, but ‘What is Somaliland?’ I hear you ask.
It’s tucked in the Horn of Africa, hugging the Gulf of Aden’s southern coast, with neighbors like Djibouti northwest, Ethiopia south and west, and Somalia east.
They broke away from Somalia in 1991 after a brutal civil war, declaring independence but staying off the global map until now.
Why care?
It’s a rare stable spot in a rough neighborhood: democratic elections, low terrorism, and ports like Berbera that could lock down Red Sea trade routes and push back on Iran/Houthis areas.
This nod from Israel might spark a recognition wave, boosting alliances and shaking up East African geopolitics
