LSK Clears Lawyer Cecil Miller, Dismisses Munyiri’s Allegations as Baseless

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has officially cleared prominent Nairobi lawyer Cecil Guyana Miller of allegations made by Kenya’s Ambassador to India, Peter Munyiri, over an alleged debt involving legal fees.

According to official LSK documents, the complaint filed earlier this year was reviewed and concluded in April 2025.

The society determined that it could not entertain the matter since the same issues were already before the courts in Civil Case No. E053 of 2023: Cecil Guyana Miller vs Peter Muriviri.

“The Law Society of Kenya does not have jurisdiction to determine a complaint whose subject matter is pending before a competent court of law,” the society said in its communication to both parties.

Despite this clarification, sources close to the matter indicate that Munyiri has continued to fund online attacks and blog posts accusing the veteran advocate of failing to refund his money claims that have since been proven false.

Email correspondence between the two, dating back to March 2016, paints a different picture. The exchanges clearly show that all payments made by Munyiri were acknowledged as legal fees for professional services rendered. In one of the emails, Munyiri himself confirmed that the payments were for legal representation effectively nullifying any claim of debt.

The LSK’s ruling now puts to rest weeks of speculation and smear campaigns that have dominated social media, targeting the lawyer known for representing high-profile clients in both civil and criminal cases.

By affirming that no debt is owed, the LSK has also underscored its role in protecting advocates from politically motivated or malicious claims while maintaining the integrity of the legal profession.“We have perused the complainant’s letter dated April 1, 2025, and the pleadings in the referenced court case. The issues raised are already before the court,” the statement read in part.

With the professional body’s clean bill of health, Miller’s reputation momentarily clouded by online mudslinging  now stands vindicated.
