PS Susan Mangeni Inspects NYOTA Project Business Training Ahead of Official Launch in Busia

As the countdown begins for the official launch of the NYOTA Project on 7th November 2025, preparations are in top gear across Busia County.

On Friday, Hon. Susan Mangeni, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for MSMEs Development, led an inspection tour of the ongoing Business Skills Training for project beneficiaries across the county’s seven constituencies ; Budalangi, Butula, Funyula, Matayos, Nambale, Teso North, and Teso South.

Busia is part of the Western Cluster, which also includes Kakamega, Bungoma, and Vihiga Counties, making it one of the key regions set to benefit from the government’s ambitious empowerment initiative targeting small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

According to PS Mangeni, the business training is a vital step in equipping beneficiaries with essential entrepreneurial and financial management skills before they receive the first installment of Ksh. 25,000, expected to be disbursed starting November 2025.

“The NYOTA Project is designed to give young entrepreneurs and small business owners not just funds, but the knowledge, networks, and mentorship needed to thrive,” she emphasized during the visit.

Following the training, participants will embark on a four-month mentorship program linking them with local business ecosystems and financial institutions. Strategic partnerships have been established with the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, Uwezo Fund, Kenya Industrial Estates, and the Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation Project (KJET), among others.

PS Mangeni was accompanied by Busia County Commissioner Mwachaunga Chaunga and officials from various implementing agencies, underscoring the government’s multi-sectoral approach to empowering citizens through sustainable enterprise growth.

With the NYOTA Project’s official launch just days away, optimism is high that it will transform livelihoods and strengthen community-based entrepreneurship across the Western region.
