Colombian President Petro has condemned the U.S. military operation in Venezuela, calling it a violation of regional sovereignty and a threat to Latin American stability.
Petro announced that Colombian forces are being deployed to the border to prepare for a potential massive influx of Venezuelan refugees.
He confirmed that Colombia’s embassy in Caracas remains active and is assisting nationals still inside Venezuela.
Petro also called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, warning that foreign interventions risk undermining peace, unity, and the principle of self-determination across the region:
“The Government of Colombia rejects the aggression against the sovereignty of Venezuela and of Latin America.
Public forces are being deployed to the border, and all available support forces will be deployed in the event of a massive influx of refugees.
Internal conflicts between peoples are resolved by those same peoples in peace.
Without sovereignty, there is no nation. Peace is the way… Dialogue and more dialogue is our proposal.”
