Ruto announces Major Military Leadership Changes in KDF

President William Ruto has announced a series of appointments, promotions, and redeployments within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s military leadership and operational effectiveness.

The changes, announced on Friday following recommendations from the Defence Council, affect senior officers across the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force, and Kenya Navy.

The reshuffle comes as the government continues efforts to enhance national security and modernize the country’s defence institutions.

Among the notable appointments is that of Major General John Maiso Nkomo, who has been named the new Deputy Commander of the Kenya Army.

He takes over from Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan, who has retired from military service.

In the Kenya Air Force, Brigadier Mohamud Salah Farah has been appointed Deputy Commander, a position expected to play a key role in overseeing the force’s strategic and operational functions.

President Ruto also promoted Brigadier William Kamoiro to the rank of Major General and appointed him as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command. The promotion reflects the officer’s experience and contribution to military service.

Additionally, Brigadier Peter Kipketer Limo has been elevated to the rank of Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics. The role is critical in managing the welfare, deployment, and logistical support of military personnel.

In a further move, the tenure of Kenya Navy Commander Major General Paul Owuor Otieno has been extended by one year, ensuring continuity in leadership within the naval service.

The latest changes underscore the government’s commitment to maintaining a professional, effective, and well-structured military capable of responding to emerging security challenges both within Kenya and across the region.
