Mama Ibado Charity has sounded the alarm: time is quickly running out for Kenyans to register for the ‘Run for Seniors’.
The national charity, which supports over 1,000 elderly people in Isiolo and Kakamega counties, is preparing to close registration earlier than expected due to overwhelming demand.
The race is designed to raise money for food, medicine, and basic health services for elderly citizens who often live without pensions or family support. MIC says this year’s turnout has been the biggest yet, with people from across Kenya signing up to run, donate, or sponsor the event.
Corporate sponsors have also come forward in large numbers. One of the main partners, 748 Air Services, is helping to coordinate event logistics. Managing Director Moses Mwangi says that the growing interest is a good sign — but it comes with logistical challenges.
“This is more than a race. It’s a national responsibility. We’ve seen a massive number of people register and we’re grateful. But now we must close the list early to make sure everything runs smoothly,” Mwangi said.
The run features three race options , 5km, 10km, and 15km – making it open to beginners and experienced runners alike. The entry fee is Ksh 2,000. It includes a branded T-shirt, a medal, and a direct contribution to MIC’s eldercare programs.
MIC President Ahmed Jibril called on all Kenyans especially the youth to support this mission. He says the run is about more than just fitness. It’s about protecting dignity.
“Every time you show up for the elderly, you’re protecting the future of this country. Our seniors carried the burden for decades. They deserve better. This is your chance to give them that,” Jibril said.
Funds raised will go toward essential services like monthly food packages, medicine, and access to healthcare clinics. Many of the seniors supported by MIC are home-bound or live in remote villages, far from any government assistance.
Jibril added that even those who can’t physically join the race can still make a difference. Donations of any amount are welcome. He urged Kenyans to give what they can and help spread the message.
The demand for elderly care in Kenya is rising fast. Yet there are few formal systems in place to support senior citizens — especially those in marginalized areas. MIC’s programs are trying to fill this gap.
The final push for the ‘Run for Seniors’ is now underway. MIC is urging anyone who has not yet registered to do so immediately. Once registration closes, there will be no extensions.
This is not just a charity run. It’s a call to action. A chance to say: we see you, we value you, and we will not leave you behind.
The deadline is near. What will you do before it passes?
