Businesswoman and social media personality Esther Musila has sparked debate online after sharing a strongly worded reaction to the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, Musila expressed shock and disappointment over allegations that some students may have been involved in the dormitory blaze that claimed the lives of 16 learners and left dozens injured.
Reacting to reports surrounding the incident, she said:
“I would disown you! If you can do that to another person, why wouldn’t you do that to me and burn down my house?”
The Utumishi Girls Academy fire, which broke out in the early hours of May 28, remains one of the deadliest school disasters in Kenya in recent years. Authorities confirmed that 16 students died while 79 others were injured. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since arrested eight students as part of the probe. Detectives say forensic analysis of CCTV footage helped identify several learners allegedly linked to the incident.
According to investigators, the suspects are expected to face legal proceedings as authorities continue gathering evidence and establishing the circumstances that led to the deadly blaze.
