Eliud Owalo Resigns as Deputy Chief of Staff After Declaring 2027 Presidential Bid

Eliud Owalo has resigned from his position as Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency following his declaration that he will contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

In a statement Owalo said his continued stay in office was no longer tenable after making a deliberate decision to seek the country’s top seat.

“Following my declaration earlier today that I intend to run for Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the year 2027, my position as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Delivery and Government Efficiency is no longer tenable. I have therefore resigned from the position with immediate effect,” Owalo said.

Earlier in the day, the senior government official had publicly announced his intention to join the presidential race, marking his entry into the 2027 political contest.

“I have today made a deliberate and conscious decision that cometh the year 2027 I will be submitting myself as a candidate for the purposes of presidential race in the elections of the purposes of Presidency of the Republic of Kenya,” Owalo said.

Owalo has been serving in the Office of the President, where he was tasked with coordinating government delivery programmes and overseeing efficiency across ministries, departments and state agencies.

His resignation signals the start of his active political journey and places him among the earliest high-ranking government officials to declare interest in the presidency ahead of the 2027 polls.

Owalo is expected to embark on nationwide consultations with leaders and citizens as he lays the groundwork for his presidential campaign.

The resignation takes effect immediately.
