Principal Secretary for Economic Planning Bonface Makokha presided over the handover of two school buses to Busende Senior School and Samia Girls’ Senior School in Busia County.
The buses were procured by the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) Board under the Best Practice Demonstration Programme (BPDP), which is supporting schools to address critical infrastructure needs.
Makokha said the programme was contributing to improved learning environments and expanding opportunities for learners across the county.
Under the initiative, Nambale Urban School has benefited from infrastructural development, while Siera Girls’ School and Lupida Senior School received school buses during the previous financial year.
Four additional schools in Busia County are also set to receive buses.
They include St James Nasewa, St. Brigit Namuduru Girls’, St. Stephen’s Kengatuny Mixed and St. Paul’s Kakemer.
Makokha said the progress demonstrates the importance of partnerships in strengthening schools and supporting learners.
He acknowledged the contribution of Principal Secretary for MSME Development Susan Mangeni, Busia County Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo, NG-CDF Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Magut and area Members of Parliament in advancing the education investments.
The Best Practice Demonstration Programme is expected to continue supporting schools with infrastructure and other resources aimed at improving access to quality education.
Makokha said continued collaboration between national government agencies, legislators and other stakeholders would be critical in addressing infrastructure gaps in schools and creating better opportunities for learners.
