Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been taken to hospital after collapsing while watching the club’s reserve team train on Friday, October 23, 2026.
The German champions confirmed the incident in an official statement, saying the 40-year-old required medical attention and was undergoing thorough examinations in hospital.
Kompany, who was observing the training session involving Bayern’s second team, will remain under medical care as doctors assess his condition.
The club has not disclosed the cause of the collapse or indicated when the Belgian coach could return to his duties.
Bayern Prioritise Kompany’s Recovery
Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl said the club’s immediate concern was the coach’s health and recovery.
“Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority,” Eberl said, adding that the club would provide him with the necessary medical care, support and time to recover.
The club also expressed confidence in Kompany’s coaching staff, who will oversee training sessions and match-related activities until further notice.
The announcement comes after Kompany had reportedly been dealing with a viral infection in recent days, which affected his participation in some of the team’s activities.
He was, however, on the touchline when Bayern played out a 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Bayern Face Freiburg Without Clarity on Kompany’s Return
Bayern Munich are scheduled to face Freiburg away in the Bundesliga on Sunday, October 25, with uncertainty surrounding Kompany’s availability following his hospitalisation.
The club has yet to announce a return date, leaving his assistants to oversee preparations and matchday responsibilities in the meantime.
Bayern, who are seeking to maintain their strong start to the season, will await further medical updates as the focus shifts to the coach’s recovery.
The club has wished Kompany a speedy recovery.
