Arsenal are reportedly locked in a tense negotiation with RB Leipzig as they push to secure the signing of Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko ahead of the new season.

Sesko, one of Arsenal’s top two transfer targets alongside Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, has been in the club’s sights for several weeks.

Talks are said to be at an advanced stage, but significant obstacles remain.

Since joining RB Leipzig from sister club RB Salzburg in 2023, Sesko has scored an impressive 39 goals in 87 appearances.

The 22-year-old is viewed as a key addition to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s attacking options.

However, according to Several reports in Europe Sesko is demanding that a release clause be included in his Arsenal contract a sticking point in the ongoing negotiations. Additionally, Arsenal are hesitant to meet his high wage demands, which has caused the deal to stall.

Further complicating matters, The Independent reports that Arsenal are playing “a game of chicken” with Leipzig over the transfer fee.

The Gunners are offering €70 million, while the German club insists on the full €80 million release clause.

Despite Leipzig’s firm stance, Arsenal believe they may eventually be able to strike a deal, especially given that Leipzig failed to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League a situation that could pressure the Bundesliga club into selling.

Should negotiations for Sesko fall through, Arsenal are prepared to turn their attention to Viktor Gyokeres. However, a deal for the Swedish striker may prove just as challenging.
