KBC Radio Taifa successfully concluded a two-day ground activation in Kakamega County, reaffirming its commitment to connecting with audiences beyond the airwaves through information, education, entertainment and community service.
The activation, led by Radio Taifa Head of Station Rebecca Cherotich, brought together presenters, listeners, county leaders and students in a series of activities that highlighted the broadcaster’s role as Kenya’s trusted national radio station.
The tour began on Friday with the lively Zinga program at Khetias Poa Supermarket in Kakamega Town, where scores of listeners turned up to meet their favourite presenters, participate in interactive activities and win gift hampers, airtime and other prizes.
The programme, hosted by Dorah Manya, featured Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, who commended KBC Radio Taifa for its balanced, objective and informative programming.
During the interview, Governor Barasa highlighted his administration’s key development achievements and underscored the importance of collaboration between the County Government of Kakamega and the National Government in accelerating service delivery and development.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, KBC Radio Taifa, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, donated sanitary pads, porridge flour, soap, blankets and other essential items to learners at Malava Special Unit and Emusala Special Unit. The donations brought smiles to learners with special needs while demonstrating the broadcaster’s commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society.
The day’s activities culminated in an exciting Rhumba Night at Havannas Lounge, where presenters Mfumu Kimbangu alias Mzairwa, DJ Stano and Caroline Mramba, together with the Radio Taifa team, entertained lovers of rhumba music in an evening filled with music, dance and audience interaction.
On Saturday, the focus shifted to education as Radio Taifa broadcast its flagship Kiswahili programme, Ramani ya Kiswahili, live from Butere Girls High School. Hosted by Mathias Momanyi, Dorah Manya and Isaac Lemoka, the programme celebrated the richness of the Kiswahili language through interactive discussions, quizzes and educational activities.
Students from Butere Girls High School were joined by their counterparts from Butere Boys High School, Bucheya Girls Secondary School and Mabole Boys High School, making the programme an engaging learning experience that promoted Kiswahili as a language of national unity while encouraging interaction among students from different schools.
In his closing remarks, KBC Brand Manager Jackline Aseka commended the management of Butere Girls High School for hosting the Radio Taifa team and praised the school’s initiative of inviting neighbouring schools to participate in the programme, noting that the gesture enriched the learning experience for all participants.
He also urged the students to remain disciplined and committed to their studies as they work towards achieving their future aspirations.
“Students, work hard in your studies and remain obedient to your teachers so that you can achieve your goals,” Aseka said.
The successful activation once again demonstrated KBC Radio Taifa’s unique ability to combine quality broadcasting with meaningful community engagement.
From insightful conversations with county leadership and support for learners with special needs to celebrating music and promoting the Kiswahili language among young people, the Kakamega tour strengthened the station’s relationship with its listeners and reaffirmed its position as Sauti ya Mkenya—a broadcaster that informs, educates, entertains and positively impacts communities across the country.
