With approximately 14 months remaining before the 2027 General Election, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), in partnership with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has launched a five-day electoral preparedness workshop in Bungoma County.
The forum has brought together stakeholders from government agencies, political parties, civil society organizations, and the private sector to enhance their understanding of the electoral process and strengthen their role in promoting democratic governance.
Political party representatives attending the workshop called on Kenyans to embrace peaceful, issue-based politics as the country prepares for the next general election. They expressed concern over the growing cases of political goonism, warning that such acts could disrupt peaceful campaigns and undermine the credibility and integrity of the electoral process.
The stakeholders emphasized the need for political tolerance, respect for divergent views, and strict adherence to electoral laws and constitutional provisions to safeguard free, fair, and credible elections.
The training, which commenced today, will run for five days and is expected to equip participants with a deeper understanding of the electoral process, the legal framework governing elections, and the constitutional principles that underpin democratic governance in Kenya.
