Raila Odinga Junior has broken his silence over a viral video showing him greeting members of the public through a fence at an airstrip in Kilgoris.
In a statement, Raila Junior sought to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident, dismissing suggestions that the encounter took place at President William Ruto’s private residence.
He said the incident happened at the public airstrip in Kilgoris, where he had just landed.
According to Raila Junior, a group of members of the public recognised him as he alighted from the aircraft and waved him over, asking him to greet them.
He explained that the fence seen in the widely circulated video was simply a standard safety barrier separating the public from the aircraft landing area.
“I responded to their greeting in the normal way one does with members of the public,” Raila Junior said.
His clarification comes after the video triggered discussion online, with some social media users questioning why he appeared to be greeting wananchi from behind a fence.
Raila Junior appeared keen to put the controversy to rest, while also taking the opportunity to poke fun at the intense attention his movements attract online.
“On a lighter note, I am pleased by the rigor and keen interest with which netizens follow my journey. I shall endeavour to update you more frequently.”
