In a move that signals a bold foray into elective politics, Raila Odinga Jnr has strongly hinted at running for the Kibra parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
Addressing community elders drawn from all five wards of the constituency; Laini Saba, Lindi, Makina, Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course, and Sarang’ombe, Raila Jnr declared that his focus is already set on shaping the future of Kibra beyond 2027, encouraging residents not to worry about election dynamics but rather the post-election leadership strategy.
“I Am Steps Ahead”: Focus on Post-2027 Planning
Speaking directly to the grassroots leaders, Raila Jnr told the elders that while voters might still be weighing their choices, he has already shifted his perspective toward long-term developmental solutions for the constituency.
“Mimi nafikiria vile nitapanga Kibera post 2027, nanyinyi mnafikiria vile mtapiga hii Kura? so nishaenda mbele yenu , shida yangu ni vile nitapanga kibera sasa na shida yenu sasa itakuwa ni vile nitaingia , hio sio shida yangu, mimi nishaenda mbele nimeanza kupanga…”
Grassroots Presence and Rejecting Rhetoric
Highlighting his accessibility and commitment to local engagement, Raila Jnr assured residents that he would remain physically available day and night to address community issues without resorting to personal insults or divisive politics.
“Sijaogopa kukuja hapa Kibera ,kukuja nitakuja usiku au mchana na tutakutana na watu kile tunataka nikukutana na watu na kusikizana , yetu sio ya matusi au kuvuruga watu, nikusaidia watu wa chini wa ground so tutashikana na watu.”
He also dismissed political noise surrounding debates on term limits, asserting that political slogans do not address real challenges on the ground:
“Kuna watu wanazunguka huku wakisema ooh ONE Term ohh Two Terms lakini hio zote hazitasolve shida zetu za ground, ni lazima tukae chini tutatue amongst ourselves what is the solutions for the problems that we have in Kibera”
Defiance on Coalition Arrangements and Zoning
Addressing broader political alignments such as coalition dynamics and party zoning, Raila Jnr struck a firm, independent stance, declaring that local decisions in Kibra will take precedence over high-level negotiations.
“Hii mambo ya broadbased ,mkisema nimeanza sisemi tena, mimi ni Raila Jnr nani ataniambia broadbased na zoning..wakikataa situtaenda tu , have no fear have no worry , tukiamua hapa tu ni hivyo….”
