Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has delivered a fiery political message in Homa Bay, declaring that President William Ruto should expect no votes from the county as the Linda Mwananchi team continues its political mobilisation tour.
Addressing supporters during the rally, Sifuna appeared to draw confidence from the reception he received from residents, recalling the support he enjoyed in Homa Bay during his tenure as ODM Secretary-General.
Sifuna also addressed attempts to disrupt the rally, claiming that roads had been blocked earlier in the morning but residents removed the stones and cleared the way.
“Tuliamka asubuhi tukapata wamefunga barabara, lakini wananchi mkaamka mkatoa hizo mawe. Walisema hatutafika hapa Homa Bay, lakini hapa ni wapi? Si tumefika?” Sifuna told the crowd.
The senator then reminded Homa Bay residents of their long-standing political relationship, telling them that he would not abandon them.
“Nikiwa SG wa ODM mlinishikilia na mkanipata support yenu. Hatuwachani nanyi watu wa Homa Bay, hatukosani.”
Sifuna invokes Raila’s legacy
Sifuna also invoked the late ODM leader Raila Odinga, telling residents that Raila’s message was centred on democracy and the defence of human rights.
“Nyinyi watu wa Homa Bay mnajua BABA Raila alisema tuweke demokrasia mbele na tuipigania haki za binadamu.”
He appeared to respond to claims that sections of the opposition had grown tired of fighting for democratic rights.
“Ati kuna wakora wanasema mmechoka kupigania demokrasia…”
The Nairobi senator then turned his attention directly to the 2027 political contest, dismissing suggestions that Ruto has a strong electoral base in Homa Bay.
“Ati hapa Homa Bay wanasema Ruto ako na kura? Hapa ziko kweli?”
He followed with a blunt declaration that drew cheers from the crowd:
“Hakuna kura ya Ruto hapa Homa Bay.”
‘Wananchi wanataka kunipatia cheo cha H.E.’
Sifuna also appeared to hint at his own political ambitions, telling residents that they had expressed their desire to see him rise to the position of His Excellency (H.E.).
“Ruto aende, asiende… wananchi wamesema wanataka kunipatia cheo cha H.E.”
He ended by urging Homa Bay residents to remain with the political team leading the current mobilisation.
“Wananchi wa Homa Bay, nataka mtembee nasi.”
The remarks come as the Linda Mwananchi team continues its political rallies in the region, with opposition figures seeking to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna’s declaration that “Hakuna kura ya Ruto hapa Homa Bay” is likely to add a new layer to the emerging political contest, particularly as rival camps intensify efforts to win over voters in regions traditionally associated with the opposition.
