Harry Kane has admitted that the Ballon d’Or is beyond his control. But if the award is judged on goals, consistency, trophies and performances on the biggest stage, the Bayern Munich striker has given voters plenty to consider.
Kane enjoyed the most productive season of his career in 2025/26, finishing the campaign with 73 goals and eight assists in 65 appearances for Bayern Munich and England.
The figures make it one of the most prolific seasons by any player in modern football.
His Bayern numbers alone were extraordinary.
36 Bundesliga goals
Harry Kane scored 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances, finishing as the league’s top scorer for the third consecutive season.
He also became the first player in Bundesliga history to win the Torjägerkanone in each of his first three seasons in Germany.
His 36-goal haul earned him the European Golden Shoe, which he won for the second time.
His Bundesliga campaign also included five assists, meaning he finished the league season with 41 goal contributions.
Kane scored at a rate of one Bundesliga goal every 66 minutes, underlining just how ruthless his finishing was.

Champions League: 14 goals
Kane was equally dangerous in Europe.
He scored 14 goals in 13 Champions League appearances, adding two assists. That took his Bayern Champions League tally to 33 goals in 38 appearances since joining the German giants in 2023.
Across all competitions for Bayern during 2025/26, Kane finished with:
- 51 appearances
- 61 goals
- 7 assists
- 36 Bundesliga goals
- 14 Champions League goals
- 10 DFB-Pokal goals
- 1 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup goal
Those numbers came alongside trophies. Bayern retained the Bundesliga title, won the DFB-Pokal and added the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
England: 12 goals across the campaign
Kane’s case does not end with his Bayern statistics.
For England, he scored six goals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, adding an assist in seven appearances as the Three Lions finished third.
He also scored five goals in World Cup qualifying and another in a friendly, taking his England total for the 2025/26 campaign to 12 goals.
The World Cup was particularly significant for Kane. His six goals made him one of the tournament’s leading scorers, while his overall international record continued to grow.
By July, he had 120 England caps and 85 goals, according to Bundesliga’s statistical review.

Is Kane really a Ballon d’Or contender?
Yes – but it is important to distinguish between being a contender and being officially nominated.
The official 2026 Ballon d’Or nominees have not yet been announced. UEFA confirmed that the ceremony will take place in London on October 26, 2026, with the nominee list to be communicated later.
However, Kane’s credentials put him firmly in the conversation.
The official Ballon d’Or website has already highlighted his 2026 World Cup campaign, recording six goals and one assist in seven matches, while describing his major-tournament scoring record and prolific career as part of his case.
He is also not a stranger to the award. Kane was nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, alongside players including Ousmane Dembélé, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland and Michael Olise.
And his 2025/26 numbers are considerably stronger.
Kane knows the decision is not his
Despite putting together statistics that could strengthen his case, Kane remains measured about his chances.
“It’s the biggest award you can get. The Ballon d’Or isn’t in my hands.”
He added:
“I’ve done what I could in terms of performing. Of course, it would be fantastic if it happens. But ultimately, there’s still 2-3 months until a decision is made.”
That humility perhaps reflects the reality of the Ballon d’Or.
Kane can control the goals, assists, trophies and performances. He cannot control how voters ultimately weigh his achievements against those of the other stars competing for football’s biggest individual prize.
The numbers make the argument for him: 73 goals, eight assists, three major trophies with Bayern, a third straight Bundesliga scoring title, the European Golden Shoe and six World Cup goals.
Whether that is enough to turn Harry Kane from a contender into the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner will be decided in London in October.
