Badminton Kenya ( BK) has sent six athletes to Uganda for the 2026 Africa AirBadminton Championships, scheduled for September 16 -19, at Aero Beach in Entebbe that will be followed by a Zone 5 Regional Championships a day later after it’s conclusion, from September 20–22.
Speaking on Wednesday from Nairobi, BK president Peter Muchiri emphasized the importance of Kenya finishing among the top two best nations, as the continental event is also used as a qualifier for the 2029 World Games scheduled for July 19–29, in Karlsruhe, Germany.
” We have managed to send six of our best athletes, three ladies and men apiece to Entebbe,” Muchiri said.
” I know they will do good and qualify for the world games in Germany because with the support of the ministry of sports, we have prepared well,” Muchiri added.
Kenya’s charges are coached by the experienced Brijesh Jagdish Sonigra, a UK trained badminton tactician, who is assisted by John Mburu as team manager, they have picked Edwin Akwanyi, Sammy Sikoyo and Calvin Simiyu for the men’s team while Jacinta Sengera headlines the ladies team alongside Yvonne mwikali and Buyanzi Blessing.
The six are among over 120 competitors representing 14 African nations, that already has defending champions Egypt, while hosts Uganda is also out to prove a point alongside Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Comoros, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tunisia, Zambia and Zimbabwe
