The Port of Lamu has recorded a major commercial milestone after receiving the Hamouna, the largest vessel ever to dock at a Kenyan port.
Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Captain William Ruto said the 366-metre vessel has a capacity of more than 14,500 containers and is expected to offload about 4,200 containers at the Port of Lamu.
Speaking at the port, Captain Ruto said the arrival of the vessel demonstrates Lamu’s growing role in Kenya’s maritime trade and reflects continued progress in commercial operations at the facility.
He added that the Kenya Ports Authority is investing in additional equipment and other resources to improve efficiency and strengthen operations at the Port of Lamu.
