Bandits raid Mutuati, Kill resident, steal Cattle and injure OCS

A manhunt has been launched in Mutuati Sub-County, Meru County, after armed bandits shot dead a resident, injured the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Mutuati Police Station, and made away with an unconfirmed number of cattle during a raid on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Mutuati Division Assistant County Commissioner Moses Lerionka, the attackers raided the Northern Grazing Zone and fatally shot a local farmer identified as Mr. Kabaara while he was working on his farm.

A multi-agency security team comprising police officers, the General Service Unit (GSU), and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit pursued the suspects. During the ensuing exchange of fire, the Mutuati Police Station OCS sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

Lerionka assured residents that security operations are ongoing and that calm has since been restored in the area. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals to security agencies.

Meanwhile, residents Ronald Mugambi and Samuel Thuranira condemned the attack and called on the government to recruit more National Police Reservists (NPR), arguing that local reservists have a better understanding of the terrain and can provide crucial support during security operations.
