Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira has hit back at Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku over remarks suggesting that the Mount Kenya East region has been sidelined in national government appointments by successive administrations.
Speaking during the launch of the Last Mile Connectivity Programme in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County, Wachira termed Ruku’s remarks as misleading and cautioned that such statements risk creating unnecessary divisions within the larger Mount Kenya region.
Wachira maintained that leaders from Embu, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi counties have over the years benefited from key government appointments, particularly during the administrations of former Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta.
He argued that the Mount Kenya East region has enjoyed equitable representation in government and urged leaders to focus on development issues rather than rhetoric that could undermine regional unity.
The remarks come days after CS Ruku accused leaders from Mount Kenya West of using counties in Mount Kenya East to advance their political interests while failing to ensure the region benefits from government opportunities and development initiatives.
The exchange highlights growing debate within the Mount Kenya region over political representation, resource allocation, and leadership ahead of the next electoral cycle.
