MP Zaheer Jhanda Defends Ruto’s Leadership, Says Results Should Matter More Than Critics

Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhanda has come to the defence of President William Ruto, saying the Head of State should be judged by the results of his administration rather than criticism over his demanding work schedule.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Jhanda argued that leadership is ultimately measured by performance and service delivery, not by perceptions surrounding how actively a president oversees government affairs.

“Leadership is measured by results, not by how often critics mock a busy schedule,” the MP said.

Jhanda dismissed claims that President Ruto’s hands-on approach to governance amounts to excessive control, insisting that active oversight is a sign of accountability rather than authoritarianism.

“Those who never imagined William Ruto would maintain such an intense work ethic now dismiss that same commitment as ‘control’,” he wrote.

The legislator maintained that it is the President’s responsibility to supervise government programmes and ensure ministries and state agencies deliver on their mandates.

“Oversight is not autocracy. Accountability is not dictatorship,” Jhanda stated.

He further argued that every administration should be assessed on the basis of its policies, achievements and commitment to democratic principles instead of assumptions about the number of hours a president spends working.

“Every administration should be evaluated on its policies, achievements, and respect for democratic institutions—not on assumptions about how many hours a president should work,” he added.

Jhanda’s remarks come amid ongoing political debate over President Ruto’s leadership style, with supporters praising his active involvement in government projects and decision-making, while critics argue that greater delegation of responsibilities would strengthen governance.

The comments are expected to add to the national conversation on executive leadership as the Kenya Kwanza administration continues implementing its development agenda amid heightened political scrutiny.
