Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was taken into custody by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on Monday morning, August 3, 2026, outside the Royal Media Services (RMS) offices in Nairobi. The arrest came after an overnight standoff where the MP sought refuge inside the media house following his appearance on Inooro TV’s political show Kiririmbi.
What He Said at the Kieni Rally
The DCI investigation centers on alleged inciteful remarks made during a political rally in Kieni, Nyeri County, on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Speaking in his native Kikuyu dialect regarding the 2027 General Election, Kaguchia warned residents against supporting President William Ruto.
According to security officials and reports, the MP warned voters that those who support the President “will be tracked to their homes and smoked out.”
What He Said Before His Arrest
Following his television interview on Sunday evening, Kaguchia posted on social media as police surrounded the building:
“After my Kiririmbi Show this evening a contingent of Police have surrounded Royal Media Studios and erected road blocks with intentions of arresting me! I will NOT BE INTIMIDATED whatsoever.”
Speaking live to Citizen TV on Monday morning shortly before surrendering to police, Kaguchia defended his comments and accused government strategists of distorting his message:
“I saw a lot of hype yesterday by the government about my political utterances that I did on Saturday in one of the political rallies, which I saw were being pushed as being inflammatory. That is an issue that falls under the purview of NCIC.”
I have not received any summons; all I have received is social media posts from Itumbi and some of the other government-leaning MPs which were also twisted to fit a certain narrative. I have no problem presenting myself to NCIC.”
Nairobi DCI chief Daniel Kandie subsequently led officers into the premises and escorted Kaguchia to DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road for interrogation.
