The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has stepped up electoral preparedness initiatives in the Lower Eastern region, engaging youth, persons with disabilities, civil society organizations and faith-based groups on their role in promoting inclusive and peaceful elections ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The week-long stakeholder engagement programme culminated in a forum bringing together civil society and faith-based organizations to enhance their understanding of electoral processes and democratic governance.
Speaking during the meeting, ORPP Lower Eastern Regional Coordinator Hope Nandwa said informed stakeholders are critical in strengthening public participation and safeguarding democratic values.
The participants were taken through the legal framework governing political parties, electoral preparedness strategies and the Political Parties Code of Conduct, with emphasis placed on inclusion and accountability.
Nandwa noted that youth, persons with disabilities, religious institutions and civil society organizations remain important partners in civic education and the promotion of peaceful political engagement.
Stakeholders who attended the training expressed confidence that the knowledge acquired would enable them to better serve their communities as the country moves closer to the next General Election.
Robert Muli of Makueni Development Trust said the forum had equipped civil society actors with practical knowledge that will help them engage wanaochipukia more effectively on governance and electoral matters.
Daniel Mutunga of the Makueni Civil Society Network said the training had broadened participants’ understanding of electoral processes and strengthened their capacity to support credible and inclusive elections.
He called for continued engagement between electoral stakeholders and community-based organizations to sustain public awareness on democratic participation.
The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties says it will continue rolling out similar engagements across the country as part of efforts to enhance electoral preparedness and encourage the participation of all groups in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 General Election.
