Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko has been ranked among Kenya’s top-performing county chiefs in the latest Infotrak CountyTrak Performance Index, placing him in the country’s top 20 governors.
The survey released on Tuesday ranked Ayacko 19th nationally after attaining a 55 per cent performance rating. He shares the position with Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai and Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi.
The latest ranking marks an improvement for Migori County compared to the previous CountyTrak survey.
In the 2025 index, Ayacko was ranked 23rd with a 46 per cent approval rating. The 2026 findings show he has climbed four places while improving his performance score by nine percentage points, an indication of growing public confidence in his administration.
Ayacko’s latest performance also means he has outperformed 28 of Kenya’s 47 governors, placing Migori among the better-performing counties in the country according to the Infotrak survey.
Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata topped the national rankings with an 80 per cent approval rating, followed by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya at 76 per cent and Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, who scored 71 per cent.
According to Infotrak, the CountyTrak Performance Index evaluates governors based on six key indicators: fulfilment of campaign promises, transparency and accountability, prudent management of public resources, implementation of development projects, accessibility and responsiveness to residents, and media visibility.
The assessment is designed to provide a comprehensive measure of county leadership and service delivery.

The survey was conducted between January and May 2026 across all 47 counties and covered all 290 constituencies and 1,450 wards.
A total of 36,200 respondents were interviewed through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI), with each county treated as an independent survey universe and assigned between 600 and 2,000 respondents based on population size.
The findings come at a politically significant time as governors enter the final phase of their first term ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The results are expected to shape public debate on county leadership and service delivery, with performance likely to feature prominently as voters begin evaluating incumbent governors.
Ayacko’s improved standing comes as his administration continues implementing development projects across Migori County in key sectors including healthcare, road infrastructure, agriculture, water services and education.
The latest poll provides an early indication of public perception of those efforts as county governments race to fulfil their campaign pledges before the next general election.
